Marion Hamilton

Date of Birth: 01/23/1939 | Date of Passing: 03/24/1994 | Date of Funeral: 03/27/1994

If there is one outstanding feature to be remembered about Marion it’s that she was kind to a fault. I remember walking to the store with her one day and she found a five dollar bill. She went to the nearby houses to try to find it’s owner. After about the tenth time finding no one home I convinced her to give up. She began to cry because she said there is someone out there who needs money and she couldn’t find them. That resonated so strongly in me it felt like being born all over again. For the first time, that I can recall, I considered how someone else may feel or what the needs of someone else might be. It was that kind of love that made her vulnerable yet so strong. Marion was a devout baptist and the mother of two. She lived most of her life deep poverty but she never complained and always made the best of the adversities thrown at her, even having a practically emotionless son. She married Leon Hamilton in their home on Third street. They both worked and eventually moved to a better place then they had their second child, a girl this time.Leukemia took the life of my mother in the spring of 1994. Through all the pain and suffering she never gave in to depression but rather encouraged her family and friends to live on in love without despair. It is too late for me to tell her that I love her. It is my prayer that she knows it somehow. She will be missed.
