Jeanne d’Arc
Date of Birth: 01/06/1412 | Date of Passing: 05/30/1431 | Date of Funeral: 05/30/1431
Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc) nicknamed “The Maid of Orleans” is a folk heroine of France and a Roman Catholic saint. She was born a peasant girl in what is now eastern France. Claiming divine guidance, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years’ War, which paved the way for the coronation of Charles VII of France. She was captured by the Burgundians, transferred to the English in exchange for money, put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais Pierre Cauchon for charges of “insubordination and heterodoxy”, Ever since I first learned of her, Joan of Arc has served as a source of personal strength and inspiration. She stood against all odds and opposition and did what others couldn’t, and what others didn’t think she could do. In her short life she did so much, and centuries later she is still remembered for her heroism. Divine rest her soul.
