Mamaw Irene, my paternal grandmother, was very close to me while I was growing up. She quite literally lived directly next door to us during my childhood, and I can say without hesitation that I loved having her so close in my life. She is my hero because she was my constant supporter. No matter what tasks, groups, things that became a part of my life, she would be there, encouraging me to give it my all and holding me close when it didn’t quite go my way. She had one of the most infectious laughs I have ever known, and when I think of her, that laugh is what I hear. I love her greatly and think of her often.
